Every year, volunteers from the Sweetwater Union High School District (SUHSD) and The University of California, San Diego (UCSD) Early Academic Outreach Program (EAOP) coordinate a yearly outreach event to teach young Latinos the importance of seeking higher education. We are bringing this event to an online platform for 2021.

The Adelante Latino Conference gives students an opportunity to meet and interact with successful Latino professionals who work in a variety of fields. Students will gain a better understanding and appreciation of what it takes to achieve their own educational and career goals and empower students as they plan for their future

10:00am – 10:15am Opening Session

Welcome from UC San Diego (UCSD) by Mr. Alberto “Beto” Vasquez, Associate Director for STEM and Community Relations at UC San Diego

DR. ADOLFO GONZALEZ, CHIEF PROBATION OFFICER, LOS ANGELES CO.

Dr. Gonzalez grew up in the South Bay and graduated from the Sweetwater School District at Montgomery High School, “Go Aztecs”. Among his many accomplishments he has 43 years in law enforcement, was Chief of Police for National City, Assistant Chief of Police for San Diego and Chief Probation Officer in San Diego. He is currently the Los Angeles County Chief Probation Officer with over a billion dollar budget and over 5600 employees.

Dr. Gonzales will talk to stuents about how to overcome challenges and prepare for future, addressing the digital divide and working through racial/social justice to prepare for success and overcoming barriers and tackling issues head on.
